Visit NY’s Metropolitan Museum of Art

Visitors to New York City often take in the usual tourist sites, such as the Empire State Building, Central Park or Times Square.  But for a historical and cultural experience that you won’t soon forget, we invite you to explore the many wonders and surprises that await you at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Since its inception in 1870, “The Met,” as it is commonly called, has brought countless works of ancient and modern art to eyes of the general public.  This isn’t your average city art museum.  Over 17 separate galleries display permanent art exhibits of paintings, photography, sculpture, tapestries, furniture and more that originate from countries all over the world.  Plan to spend at least half a day (or better yet, a full day) wandering its vast halls so you can fully enjoy all that the museum has to offer.

Galleries and Exhibits

No matter what art form you find yourself drawn to, you’ll find it at The Met.  Within the many diverse galleries within its impressive rooms are collections of Asian Art; Egyptian Art (with over 26,000 objects from Paleolithic to Roman times housed in 39 rooms!); Greek and Roman Art; European Paintings; The American Wing; Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas; Islamic Art; Medieval Art; Modern and Contemporary Art; Musical Instruments; and Photographs, among others.  The Arms and Armor collection features over 800 objects of armor, weapons, and equestrian artifacts.

The museum also has a separate branch facility in northern Manhattan called The Cloisters.  Located in Fort Tryon Park overlooking the Hudson River, this museum is dedicated to medieval European art and architecture.

The Met also has special upcoming exhibits throughout the year, including Sleeping Ero, Birds in the Art of Japan, and Photography of the American Civil War, just to name a few.  Special events such as concerts, lectures, films, tours and benefits are frequently held on-site.
